"This 8x10 fish rug is hand knotted in soft New Zealand wool: a warm peach-orange field, rust red border and a shoal of green, sky-blue and lilac folk fish.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh. We use the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving - so the pile stands up evenly and the drawing stays crisp. No latex, no adhesive, no machine tufting. The fringe is the warp itself, not a sewn-on trim.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field is a warm papaya-peach (#C47F5E), about a third of the rug, framed by a rust red border (#8B5245). The fish carry deep hemlock green (#393D30), maroon-bordeaux (#42100D) and rust (#702919), with umber mid-tones, slate grey, sand and small notes of powder blue, lilac and mustard gold. Peach against rust reads as one warm block from across a room; the cool greens and blues stop it feeling sweet.

THE DESIGN
A folk-art fish pictorial in the spirit of Anatolian village and nomadic weaving, sold as Oushak style: four large muskie-like fish, about a dozen small sunfish and bluegill, striped pebbles and plant forms, all drawn with stepped, hand-knotted outlines on an open field inside a single rust frame. It is a playful, grown-up piece - equally at home in a lake cottage, a collected traditional room or a modern space that needs warmth.
