"WHY THIS RUG
Every knot in this Oushak is tied by hand on an upright loom in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh, using the Turkish Ghiordes knot — the symmetrical double knot that gives Anatolian rugs their density and their squared, upright motifs. Nothing here is glued, printed or machine-set.
The field is sumac red, a warm terracotta that shifts in bands of lighter and deeper tone across the width. That banding is called abrash. It happens when wool is dyed in small batches rather than one industrial lot, and it is the single clearest signal that a rug was made by hand. We do not correct it. It is the reason the floor looks alive rather than printed.
Around the field sits a wide buckwheat-gold border framed by pewter-charcoal guard stripes in a twisting ribbon pattern. Inside both, the weaver has scattered something you rarely find on a modern Oushak: small stylised animals. A cat with pricked ears, a spotted quadruped, birds in the border. In Anatolian village weaving these figures are not decoration — birds carry joy, guardian creatures carry protection. It is a rug that rewards a second look.

WHY NEW ZEALAND WOOL
New Zealand fleece has a long staple and a high natural lanolin content. In practice that means three things you will actually notice: it sheds very little after the first fortnight, it resists spills long enough for you to blot them, and it springs back from furniture compression instead of holding a dent. It is also naturally hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant — no synthetic backing to break down into the air.
WHERE IT WORKS
Warm reds and golds are doing the heavy lifting in 2026 interiors, as the grey minimal decade gives way to rooms with pattern and history in them. This rug reads equally well under a modern sofa, in a grandmillennial dining room, in a farmhouse entry, or layered over jute in a boho living room.
