HOW IT IS MADE
Tied knot by knot on upright looms in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh, India, with the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving, which sets the pile upright so it wears evenly for decades. 100% New Zealand wool pile on a hand-spun cotton foundation. No latex, no adhesive, no machine tufting. The fringe is the loom warp itself, knotted off by hand.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. Field: deep petrol indigo #223641, roughly 45% of the surface. Main border ground: mineral patina aqua #82AAAC, close to 18%. Antique brass #7E6948 carries all the vine work, another 18%, finished with an ivory #DCCEB5 loom fringe. That two-tone split is why the rug reads from across a room: a dark, quiet centre that holds furniture without arguing with it, and a light border that lifts the rectangle off a dark floor. The field moves gently in tone rather than striping hard.
If you follow 2026 palettes: Etsy named Patina Blue its Colour of the Year and recommended pairing it with warm brass. This rug is that pairing already woven in.
THE DESIGN
Arts and Crafts lineage - interlocking vine scrolls, tulip and bellflower buds, lanceolate leaves, small rosettes - laid out in the Oushak manner: open field, stepped cusped reserve, no hard medallion. A leaf-and-bud meander runs the border between two narrow brass guard bands. Traditional from the doorway, almost graphic from above.

WHERE IT WORKS

CARE
