"WHAT MAKES THIS ONE DIFFERENT
Most Oushak rugs give you florals. This one gives you a story. Look past the palmettes and
you will find a small woven menagerie living in the field — a sage-grey cat mid-stride with a
curled tail, a blush-pink bird, an inky feline face crowning the centre. These figures are drawn
the way village weavers have always drawn them: freehand, a little uneven, entirely charming.
Collectors call this pictorial or folk-art weaving, and it is the reason no two of these rugs
are ever quite the same.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED HONESTLY
The field is a fired-clay rust — persimmon leaning to cinnamon, with visible horizontal abrash
banding where the hand-dyed wool shifted lot to lot. That banding is not a flaw. It is the
signature of small-batch dyeing and the thing machine-made rugs can never fake. Framing it is a
near-black charcoal border with an ivory-and-slate barber-pole guard stripe. Scattered across the
ground: blush rose, mustard gold and saffron ochre, slate blue-grey, sage, and warm ivory.
Against oak floors, walnut furniture, leather, brass or cream linen, it grounds a room instead of
competing with it.
HOW IT IS MADE
- Hand knotted, knot by knot, using the symmetrical Turkish Ghiordes knot
- 100% New Zealand wool — long staple, high lanolin, naturally stain resistant
- Woven in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh, India, in the Anatolian Oushak tradition
- Low shedding and reversible, with no latex or cloth backing
- Integrated fringe, part of the warp, never sewn on
- Naturally hypoallergenic, flame resistant and biodegradable
Hand knotting is slow work. A single rug of this scale represents months at the loom for a team
of weavers. What you get for that time is a floor covering that takes decades of traffic and
looks better for it — the pile burnishes, the colours soften, the character deepens.

CARE
Vacuum without a beater bar. Rotate every six to twelve months for even wear. Blot spills
immediately with a clean white cloth — wool's natural lanolin resists staining if you act quickly.
Professional wool cleaning every few years is all it will ever need. A quality rug pad extends the
life of the pile and keeps everything in place.
