"Built for the dining room: a 9x12 hand knotted Oushak rug with a stormy teal field that hides crumbs and a caramel gold border that frames the table.
HOW IT IS MADE
Weavers in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt tie this rug knot by knot on an upright loom - roughly 100 knots in every square inch, each one a Turkish Ghiordes knot, the symmetric double knot that Anatolian and Oushak weavers have used for centuries. New Zealand wool pile, cotton foundation, and nothing else: no latex, no adhesive, no tufting gun. The fringe at each end is the warp, the same threads the whole rug is built on.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. Ground: stormy teal blue #495C5B, about 26% of the rug. Border: caramel gold #81633B, about 29%. Motif shading in khaki #746955 (about 20%), walnut-brown drawing lines #362D1D (about 11%), sand #B2A58F highlights (about 5%), with small notes of brick rust and petrol blue. A dining table cuts a rug into strips; the split between teal field and gold border keeps the pattern legible around the chairs.
If you follow 2026 palettes: teal is WGSN's colour of the year, and the stormy-blue-with-caramel combination is the one designers are using to warm up cooler rooms.
THE DESIGN
The pattern belongs to the Sultanabad family that Oushak workshops made their own - an allover arrangement of oversized palmettes, serrated split leaves, rosettes and curling tendrils, with no central medallion to be hidden by a table. The border runs a palmette-and-rosette vine on the caramel ground between two guard stripes of tiny flower heads.

WHERE IT WORKS
A 9x12 seats a 72 to 84 inch table with chairs pulled out and still on the rug. It also anchors an open living room, a large primary bedroom or a formal sitting area. Dining traffic is fine; the busy field hides small marks.
CARE
Vacuum with suction only, no beater bar. Turn it twice a year. Blot spills straight away. Professional wash when it needs it.
