HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on an upright loom in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt. New Zealand wool pile on a cotton foundation, about 100 knots per square inch, each a Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetric double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving. No latex, no glued backing, no machine tufting. The fringe is the warp itself.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field is a stormy teal blue (#495C5B, hue 172 degrees), about 26% of the surface. The main border is caramel gold (#81633B), about 29%. Khaki (#746955) shades the motifs at about 20%, walnut-brown outlines (#362D1D) about 11%, sand highlights (#B2A58F) about 5%, with traces of brick rust and deep petrol blue. Cool field against warm border lets the pattern read from across the room.
If you follow 2026 palettes: WGSN named Transformative Teal its colour of the year, and designers are pairing stormy blue with caramel and chocolate. This rug already carries that pairing.
THE DESIGN
The drawing follows the Sultanabad lineage that the Oushak trade adopted: an allover field of large palmettes, serrated split leaves, rosettes and hooked tendrils, with no single dominant medallion. The main border carries a scrolling vine of palmettes and flower heads between two narrow guard stripes, finished with a slim teal edge. It suits brown leather, oak and brass.

- Knot: hand knotted, Turkish Ghiordes (symmetric) knot, approx. 100 knots per square inch
- Fringe: warp-end fringe, no latex or adhesive anywhere
- Wear: low shedding once the first few weeks of loose fibre are vacuumed out; wool's natural lanolin makes it soil-resistant
- Fibre: natural, renewable and biodegradable wool, often chosen as a hypoallergenic alternative to synthetic pile; built to last as an heirloom
- The design reads clearly through to the reverse, showing the knot count
- Sizes: 5x8, 8x10, 9x12, 10x14 and a 2.5x13 runner; custom sizes and COM/COL dyeing on request
WHERE IT WORKS
Under a sofa and two chairs with front legs on the rug, in a primary bedroom or a sunroom. Handles family traffic.
CARE
Vacuum without the beater bar. Rotate twice a year. Blot spills, never rub. Professional wash every few years.
