WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
This is a hand knotted Turkish Oushak rug woven in 100% New Zealand wool on a cotton foundation. The field is a warm adobe rose - a clay tone that sits between terracotta and dusty brick, softened the way genuine Oushak grounds soften. It is framed by a wide eucalyptus border in muted celadon sage, and the whole surface is drawn in wheat gold, slate blue, lichen green, deep juniper and parchment ivory.
The pattern is a classic allover Oushak layout: large scale palmettes, serrated leaf forms, rosette medallions and small cruciform blossoms, spaced generously rather than crowded. That open spacing is what lets an Oushak carry a big room without fighting the furniture in it.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh, India, using the symmetrical Turkish Ghiordes knot - the same technique that gave Anatolian village weaving its density and its resistance to wear. There is no latex, no cloth backing and no machine anywhere in the process. The fringe is integrated into the warp, not sewn on afterward.

WHY THE WOOL MATTERS
New Zealand wool carries a high lanolin content, which is what gives the pile its spring back underfoot and its quiet luster in daylight. It resists soiling naturally, releases dirt on vacuuming rather than holding it, and does not flatten the way short staple wool does. This is the fiber that makes a rug worth keeping for thirty years instead of three.
WHERE IT LIVES BEST
The adobe rose and eucalyptus pairing is doing a lot of work in 2026 interiors - it reads as warm neutral from across a room and as full color up close. It sits comfortably in a living room over oak or walnut, under a dining table where the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out, in a primary bedroom, a study, a sunroom or a wide entry hall. It layers well with linen upholstery, rattan, aged brass and unlacquered hardware.
CARE
Vacuum without a beater bar. Blot spills immediately, never rub. Rotate every six to twelve months for even wear. A rug pad is recommended. Professional cleaning every few years.
