"Meet the 8x10 fish rug for people who love colour: hand-knotted New Zealand wool, a soft mint ground and a shoal of teal, peach and plum fish.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt of India, using the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving. No latex, no adhesive, no machine tufting; the fringe is the warp itself. Knotted to order in about 45 days.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The open field is a soft eucalyptus mint (#A8B19B), about 43% of the surface - a pale grey-green, not beige. The fish carry deep teal (#1A3E43, about 11%), peach clay (#A57E6C), plum brown, walnut and slate teal, with touches of mauve and moss. A quiet ground with confident darks means the pattern reads across a room without feeling busy.
If you follow 2026 palettes: mint is having a moment (KitchenAid named Spearmint its 2026 Color of the Year), and fish motifs are everywhere in decor.
THE DESIGN
The fish (balik) is one of the oldest motifs in Anatolian village and nomadic tribal weaving, a sign of abundance and good luck seen on Turkish kilims and pile rugs alike. Here four big fish with patterned scales and striped fins swim among a dozen small ones and two striped pebbles, on an open field inside a slim frame. No medallion, no heavy border: it works as floor art in an eclectic, coastal or modern traditional room. It is an Oushak style weave in construction and handle, not an antique Oushak floral layout.
