"A teal Turkish Oushak rug in 8x10, hand-knotted in New Zealand wool, where a patina blue field meets a ginger rust border and pink hollyhock sprays.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh, India. Our weavers use the Turkish Ghiordes knot, the symmetrical double knot wrapped around two warp threads that Anatolian village, tribal and nomadic weavers have tied for centuries and that the Oushak workshops of western Anatolia made famous. Unlike a flatwoven kilim, this is a true knotted pile rug, hand-knotted in Turkish tradition on a cotton foundation.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field reads as deep patina teal (#374C50) and the main border as ginger rust (#895C48). Hollyhock pink (#AF8D7C) runs through the flowers, with mimosa gold (#AA8F65), ivory (#D0CFC4) and a soft pale blue in the details. By area the teal covers about 28 percent, rust and pink about 14 percent each. A cool centre inside a warm frame reads clearly from across a room.
If you follow 2026 palettes: Etsy named Patina Blue its colour of the year, and designers are pairing it with rust as the warm counterweight.
THE DESIGN
In the Ottoman floral manner, an ivory centre medallion with a pale blue heart sends fine stems outward, each carrying pink hollyhock-like blooms. Four large gold and pink Shah Abbasi palmettes sit at the sides. The border sets ivory, pink and blue rosettes between gold leaf scrolls on a rust ground, inside zigzag and diamond-chain guards. In an 8x10 it anchors a sofa and two chairs with the front legs resting on the rug.

- Low shedding once the first few vacuums lift loose surface fibre; naturally soil-resistant thanks to the wool's own lanolin
- Natural, renewable fibre with no synthetic backing, a common choice for allergy-conscious homes, built to become an heirloom
- The design reads clearly through to the reverse, a sign of true hand-knotting
- Also in 5x8, 9x12, 10x14 and 2.5x13 runner; custom sizes and COM/COL dyeing on request; sizes vary 2 to 3 percent
WHERE IT WORKS
Living room under a neutral sofa, bedroom under the lower two-thirds of a queen bed, dining room under a table for four to six, or a study with dark wood. Rotate it if one side sits in strong sun.
CARE
Vacuum without the beater bar, rotate twice a year, blot spills with cool water, and have it professionally washed every few years.
