Turkish Oushak rug 8x10 hand knotted in 100% New Zealand wool — a deep blue-green field held inside a lichen-olive border, with rosehip and quince flowers scattered across it.
8x10 is the size most American living rooms are actually built around — it seats a sofa and two chairs with all front legs on the wool, which is what makes a room read as finished rather than furnished.
THE PIECE

Hand knotted in the Turkish tradition on pit looms in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh,
India. Every knot is a Turkish double knot — the Ghiordes knot — tied by hand onto a cotton
foundation. A single 8x10 takes a two-weaver team the better part of four months.
The pile is 100% New Zealand wool, and that is worth naming specifically: NZ fleece runs longer in
staple and higher in natural lanolin than the blended wools used at this price, so it takes dye
cleanly, resists soil, and sheds very little after the first fortnight.

COLOUR & DESIGN

The field is a deep blue-green — the colour of a loch under cloud, sitting exactly where blue stops
and green begins. Around it runs a wide lichen border in the softened yellow-green both
Sherwin-Williams and Valspar nominated for 2026. Cool centre, warm frame: that contrast is what
makes the piece work.
Across the ground runs an all-over Turkish floral — serrated leaves, blossom heads, vine scroll — in
rosehip coral, dogrose pink, quince gold, woad blue and oyster ivory, with stepped triangles and
ivory batons marching through the border like punctuation.
Look along the field and the tone lifts and settles in soft horizontal bands. That is abrash, the
natural variation between small dye lots, and it is why a hand-dyed rug never looks flat the way a
printed one does. Because the pile is knotted rather than tufted, the drawing reads clearly through
to the reverse.
