"Hand knotted one knot at a time on a cotton foundation, this Oushak carpet is built the way Anatolian
village weavers have built them for generations. The pile is 100% New Zealand wool, chosen for its long
staple and high lanolin content, which is why it stays soft underfoot, resists soiling, and sheds very
little compared to short-staple wools. The Turkish Ghiordes knot, tied symmetrically around two warps,
gives the rug a dense, stable pile that will not pull or unravel at the edges. There is no latex backing
and no adhesive anywhere in it, so it is fully reversible, breathes properly, and will never crumble
into the powder that machine-made rugs leave behind after a few years.
The field is a warm mushroom greige, the shade Forbes named the hottest interior colour of 2026, and it
carries a gentle abrash, the natural tonal drift that comes from small-batch dye lots. Across it sit
Oushak palmettes, rosettes and serrated leaves in rust terracotta, camel apricot, slate blue, charcoal
and sage, drawn loosely rather than mechanically. A wide ivory oatmeal border frames the whole thing
with cartouche and vine motifs, and twin guard bands hold the composition together. Warp fringe is
finished by hand at both ends. Because the palette sits between grey and beige rather than committing
to either, it reads as warm against cool walls and calm against warm wood, which is what makes a
mushroom ground far more forgiving to live with than a true beige or a cool grey.
