Hand-knotted fish rug in 100% New Zealand wool - a pictorial folk-art carpet woven on the Turkish Ghiordes knot, in a weathered slate blue that reads calm from across the room and detailed underfoot.
Seven fish swim the length of this rug and not one of them repeats. Each is drawn separately at the loom: a different body, a different scale pattern, a different pairing of dusty rose, wine, rust, charcoal and ivory. That is the pictorial tradition - a weaver telling a story rather than copying a repeat. The slate blue ground carries visible abrash, the gentle tonal drift that happens when wool is dyed in small batches, and a fine diamond-lattice border in grey and ivory frames the piece like the edge of a painting.

Wool this good does most of the work itself. New Zealand fleece carries natural lanolin that repels liquid long enough to blot, springs back under furniture instead of crushing flat, and is naturally flame-resistant. It is why a hand-knotted wool rug still looks right thirty years in.
COLOUR AND ROOM
Slate blue behaves like a neutral, which is why designers reach for it when they want depth without commitment. It sits beautifully on white oak and warm wood floors, holds its own against cream and oatmeal upholstery, and the rose and rust notes in the fish hand you a ready-made accent palette for cushions and art. CARE
Vacuum without a beater bar. Rotate every six months for even wear. Blot spills, never rub. Professional wash every 3-5 years. A quality rug pad extends its life considerably.
