"A saffron-gold Turkish Oushak rug, hand knotted in wool, framed by a rust-red floral border - the warm, lived-in centrepiece a living room is built around.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation by weavers in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh. We use the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving - so the pile stands firm for decades. No latex, no adhesive, no machine tufting. The fringe is the warp itself.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field is a saffron-tan gold (#AC8F5E), roughly 47% of the surface, which reads as a warm golden beige in soft evening light. The main border is a rust red (#774831 in shadow, lifting toward brick in daylight), about 14% of the rug. Umber outlines draw the motifs, with notes of ivory, slate blue, lavender and olive. The darker frame anchors the rug; the lighter field opens the room.
If you follow 2026 palettes: this is the Modern Heritage look - rust, gold and warm brown with wood and brass.
THE DESIGN
The drawing follows the Ottoman court tradition as woven for export in West Anatolian Oushak and Farahan workshops: large open flowerheads, sickle-shaped acanthus leaves and budding sprays around a quiet centre, with no heavy medallion. The rust border carries flowerheads and leafy sprays between twin gold guards, the classic Oushak frame. The scale reads clearly across a room, in traditional, transitional or modern heritage interiors.

WHERE IT WORKS

Vacuum without the beater bar, rotate twice a year, blot spills (never rub), and professionally wash every few years.
