"WHY THIS RUG
Every knot is tied by hand on an upright loom in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh, using the Turkish Ghiordes knot — the symmetrical double knot that gives Anatolian rugs their density and their squared, upright motifs. Nothing here is printed, glued or machine-set.
The field is storm blue: a soft, weathered, slightly green-leaning blue that shifts through bands of lighter and deeper tone across the width. That banding is abrash. It happens when wool is dyed in small batches rather than one industrial lot, and it is the clearest single signal that a rug was made by hand. We do not correct it. It is why the floor reads as alive rather than printed.
Framing it is a deep oxblood border — brick red with real weight to it — separated from the field by charcoal guard bands in a twisting barber-pole ribbon. The blue-against-red contrast is what makes this rug work in a photograph and in a room: cool ground, warm frame, nothing muddy in between.
And then there are the animals. A black cat with pricked ears near the centre. A terracotta fox mid-stride. A spotted quadruped, and songbirds scattered through the border. In Anatolian village weaving these figures were never decoration — birds carried joy, guardian creatures carried protection. Most people do not notice them until the rug is already on the floor.

New Zealand fleece has a long staple and a high natural lanolin content.
