"A deep midnight navy Turkish Oushak in the size most living rooms are planned around, framed by a rust red floral border and hand knotted in pure wool.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation by weaving families in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh. We use the Turkish Ghiordes knot, the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving, so the pile stands upright and wears evenly. There is no latex backing, no adhesive and no machine tufting, and unlike a flat kilim this is a true pile carpet. The fringe at each end is the warp itself, not a sewn-on trim.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field reads midnight navy #14283F, moving between #0D1C30 and #1F374D. The main border is rust #724A31, warming to #875C43 in the light. Stone ivory #ABA18F runs through both guard bands, with small accents of slate blue, mustard gold and moss green. By area it is about 53% navy, 23% rust and 20% ivory: a dark centre with a warm frame that reads from across the room.
If you follow 2026 palettes: designers are pairing inky navy and sapphire with rust and clay earth tones for rooms that feel collected rather than new.
THE DESIGN
This is a traditional West Anatolian Oushak floral in the Ottoman manner: large serrated leaves, stylised cloudband hooks and flowerheads drawn around a small central rosette, with half-forms resting on each side of the field. The rust main border carries rosettes and angled leaves, held between two ivory guard bands of small repeating flowerheads, with a fine navy line at the outer edge. It suits a living room built around a navy, cognac or cream sofa and warm wood.
