"Dining rooms need a rug that holds its line under a table. This 9x12 brick-red tartan is hand-knotted in New Zealand wool with a crisp chestnut grid.
HOW IT IS MADE
Knotted by hand on a vertical loom in India's Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt: 100% New Zealand wool over cotton, tied with the Turkish Ghiordes knot that gives Anatolian and Oushak carpets their dense, springy pile. The pattern is plaid; the build is the same as our Oushak-style rugs. Nothing is glued, latexed or tufted, and the fringe is the warp carried out of the body.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. In daylight the ground measures brick red #852E2C (range #741E1D-#983E3D), the rules chestnut #57281C, the pinstripes apricot sand #D39980. About 68 / 22 / 10. Two close warm darks and one light accent means the grid never fights a table's grain or the china on it.

THE DESIGN
A windowpane sett of five vertical and seven horizontal bands, chestnut rules framing doubled apricot pinstripes, meeting in woven hashes. No border - the grid runs off the edges and reads as architecture. At 9x12 a six-seat table sits fully on the rug with chairs pulled out.
