An emerald green Turkish Oushak rug in 8x10 — hand-knotted in 100% New Zealand wool, with Arts and Crafts botanical repeat and a wheat-gold border.
Woven on the handlooms of the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt in Uttar Pradesh, India, this carpet is tied knot by knot in the Turkish Ghiordes tradition — a symmetrical knot on a cotton foundation, the same construction used across Anatolia for centuries. Nothing here is printed, tufted or glued. There is no latex backing, and the design reads clearly through to the reverse, which is how you tell a genuine hand-knotted rug from a machine-made one.
THE COLOUR
The field is a deep emerald green — closer to forest and spruce than to teal — laid under a repeating botanical grid of stylised lotus palmettes in soft sage and oatmeal. The main border runs wheat gold with angular stepped tree motifs, framed by jade-toned guard bands and rosette chains. A gentle abrash runs horizontally through the field: the natural, subtle shift in dye lot that happens when wool is dyed in small batches. It is a mark of hand-work, not a flaw.
The palette lands squarely on 2026's colour direction — deep emerald is one of the year's defining rug shades, and the sage-jade motif tone sits within Pinterest's Jade palette for the year.
