Charcoal Gabbeh rug, 8x10 ft, hand knotted in New Zealand wool — an open ebony field edged with pale ivory diamonds and stylized trees that grounds a living room in quiet drama.
"WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
An open, near-solid charcoal ground — measured at #2F3035, a deep graphite with a faint cool slate cast — framed by a fine dotted inner border and punctuated by small ivory diamonds and stylized cypress-like sprigs. Dotted end panels close the field at top and bottom. This is Gabbeh-lineage minimalism: the drama comes from restraint, not from pattern density. The wool carries a soft, low-contrast tonal movement across the field (measured luminance variance of roughly 6 units) — the gentle breathing you get from small-batch dye lots, visible in raking light but never blotchy.

• 100% New Zealand wool pile on a cotton foundation
• Hand knotted using the Turkish Ghiordes (symmetrical) knot
• Woven in the Bhadohi–Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh, India
• Integrated warp fringe — part of the rug's structure, never sewn on afterwards

WHY NEW ZEALAND WOOL
New Zealand fleece is longer-stapled and higher in natural lanolin than commodity wool. That means better spring-back under furniture, a cleaner take on dye, and far less shedding in the first months. Underfoot it feels dense and cushioned rather than wiry. It is a natural, biodegradable, renewable fibre — no microplastics, no off-gassing.
WHERE IT WORKS
A dark ground is the most forgiving floor you can choose in a busy house — it hides everyday traffic, absorbs shadow, and makes pale furniture, brass and warm wood read louder. It anchors moody, colour-drenched rooms beautifully and works just as well as a grounding counterweight in a pale minimalist space. Strong in living rooms, dining rooms, primary bedrooms, studies and entry halls.
CARE
Vacuum weekly without a beater bar. Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth — never rub. Rotate 180° every six months for even wear. Professional wool cleaning every three to five years. Use a felt-and-rubber pad underneath.
