A hand-knotted Oushak area rug in 100% New Zealand wool, woven one knot at a time on a cotton foundation using the Turkish Ghiordes symmetrical knot. No glue, no latex backing, no machine tufting. The fringe is not sewn on — it is the actual warp of the loom, finished by hand.
THE COLOURWAY
The field is a deep moss green with a soft grey-green cast, the shade designers are calling smoky jade and moss for 2026. Look closely and you will see abrash — the gentle horizontal striations where hand-dyed wool shifts tone from one batch to the next. That variation is the signature of a genuinely hand-dyed rug, not a flaw.
Framing the field is a broad copper rust border, warm and cinnamon-toned, carrying a repeat of Ottoman palmettes and rosette cartouches. Between border and field run reciprocal running-dog guard bands in oatmeal ivory — the classic Anatolian zigzag.
Scattered across the moss ground are angular forked harshang leaves, stepped palmettes in antique gold, octagonal rosettes in clay rose, and small accents of slate blue and near-black olive. At the centre sits a hooked medallion in soft rose. It is a traditional Turkish Oushak drawing rendered in a palette that is very much of this moment.
