WHY THIS RUNNER IS DIFFERENT
Most runners give you a repeating pattern. This one gives you a story. Seven fish — each individually drawn, each a different colorway — swim in single file down a field of undyed ivory wool, framed by a slate-blue diamond border and a fine taupe guard stripe. No two fish are alike, and no two rugs are alike. This is pictorial Gabbeh weaving in the nomadic tradition: the weaver observes, simplifies, and tells.
The ground is left largely open, with the soft horizontal striation called abrash running through it — the natural variation that happens when hand-spun wool meets small-batch dye lots. It is the visual fingerprint of a genuinely handmade rug, and the reason this piece reads as collected rather than bought.

New Zealand wool is longer-stapled and higher in lanolin than standard carpet wool. In practice that means three things: it takes dye with more depth, it resists spills long enough for you to blot them, and it will not go flat in a corridor that gets walked a hundred times a day. This is a rug built to be underfoot for thirty years, not thirty months.
COLOR & STYLING
Ivory and warm cream ground. Rust, terracotta, brick red, ochre gold, burgundy and taupe in the fish. Slate blue and charcoal in the border. It sits naturally alongside 2026's warm-neutral direction — creamy ivories, sun-washed beige, soft clay — while the aged blue border echoes the year's most-searched decorative color.
Style it as folk art, not theme decor. Against limewashed plaster, unlacquered brass, oak, rattan or a dark stained floor, the fish read as naive-art charm rather than nautical cliché — the difference between a beach house and a collector's hallway.
