"A deep patina-blue open field, copper vine scrolls climbing every border - this 9x12 hand-knotted wool carpet is Arts and Crafts drawing at full scale.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur weaving belt of Uttar Pradesh, India, using the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian and Oushak weaving. No latex, no adhesive backing, no machine tufting. The fringe is the cotton warp itself, not stitched on afterwards.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The field reads #1C3749, a deep patina blue at hue 203 - blue with a green undertone, not a flat navy. The vinework is oxidised copper, #4D322A warming to #6E5044 at the petal tips, with oat-ivory highlights at #D0C0A7 that reappear in the fringe. The split measures roughly 81 percent blue, 17 percent copper, 2 percent ivory. It reads as one calm blue floor from the doorway and gives up its floral detail only once you stand on it, with gentle tonal movement across the open ground where hand-spun yarn takes dye unevenly.
If you follow 2026 palettes: this is Etsy's Patina Blue against the oxidised copper that inspired it, on a floor instead of a wall.
THE DESIGN
The drawing belongs to the Arts and Crafts tradition - the Craftsman, Mission and Prairie School vocabulary American bungalows were built around. A slender tulip-and-rosebud vine climbs each inner border and turns at squared corner brackets - the right-angled device that separates Arts and Crafts work from Persian curvilinear drawing. One symmetrical vine spray opens at the centre. The open ground is deliberate: it gives furniture somewhere to sit.
