"Sage green, bottle green and khaki gold on an open Kazak field - a hand-knotted Turkish-style wool rug that makes an 8x10 living room feel calm and grounded.
HOW IT IS MADE
Every knot is tied by hand onto a cotton foundation by weavers in the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt of northern India. We use the Turkish Ghiordes knot - the symmetrical double knot behind Anatolian, Oushak and Kazak weaving - which wraps both warp threads and holds the pile upright for decades. No latex, no glue, no machine tufting. The fringe is the warp itself. Unlike a flatwoven kilim, this is a true knotted pile rug with real weight underfoot.
THE COLOUR, MEASURED
We colour-sample every piece before we write about it. The open field is sagebrush green (#9DA991), about 40 percent of the surface. The border and secondary motifs sit in laurel olive (#7C896C) at 28 percent. Bottle green (#183827) fills the corners at 18 percent, with verdigris slate (#4A5E4B) and khaki gold (#8E875C) at 7 percent each, plus small parchment cream crosses. Because field and border are two greens rather than green against ivory, the rug reads as one calm colour from across a room and reveals its pattern as you walk closer.
If you follow 2026 palettes: designers now treat soft green as the new neutral, and this rug puts it on the floor in wool.
THE DESIGN
The layout follows the Lori-Pambak Kazak tradition: one open medallion on a quiet field. A lobed cruciform medallion outlined in khaki gold holds a verdigris hooked star around a gold diamond. Four quartered corner medallions in bottle green carry cream crosses, and stepped brackets float between them. The border alternates latticed rosettes with tribal S-forms - nomadic, Ottoman-era geometry that sits easily with oak, linen, leather and aged brass.
