Every RUGYFY rug is knotted one loop at a time on a traditional loom using the Turkish Ghiordes knot, in 100% New Zealand wool on a cotton foundation. There is no latex or cloth backing, and the ivory fringe is an extension of the warp rather than something sewn on afterwards - the two clearest signs of genuine hand-knotted construction. A rug this size takes our weavers several months from loom to finished piece.
THE DESIGN
The open field is worked in a soft lilac that moves gently between wisteria and heather as the light crosses the pile - the natural tonal movement of hand-dyed wool, never a flat printed colour. A slim sage-green guard line frames the field, punctuated by dusty coral diamonds and slender Anatolian cypress motifs, the nomadic shorthand for the tree of life. Fine dotted end bands close the composition top and bottom. The piece sits between Gabbeh minimalism and Oushak formality: quiet enough for a modern room, characterful enough that people ask about it.
