THE PIECE
This is a traditional Turkish Oushak, hand-knotted knot by knot on a cotton foundation using the Ghiordes knot — the symmetrical Anatolian technique that gives Oushak weaving its density and its famously long life. The field is a soft, dusty rose that shifts gently across the surface. That variation is abrash: the natural tonal drift that happens when wool is dyed in small batches rather than industrial lots. It is not a flaw. It is the signature of a rug made by hand.
Across that rose ground, large open palmettes, rosettes, and stylized floral heads are drawn in jade green, sage, butter yellow, and slate blue, linked by a fine angular vine lattice. A wide jade border frames it all, filled with serrated leafwork and cream-gold cartouches, finished with an integrated fringe drawn from the warp — never sewn on afterward.
